Interest on Lawyers' Trust Accounts (IOLTA) and Interest on Trust Accounts (IOTA) are innovative programs established by the Ohio General Assembly to increase access to justice for those Ohioans who cannot afford an attorney.

Through these programs, lawyers and title agents, who are required to hold client funds in escrow, are permitted to pool those funds in a single account when the funds are of limited amount or are to be held for a short period of time. The interest earned by the accounts is directed to the Ohio Legal Assistance Foundation to fund civil legal aid.
